Store Bought Hummus - Concerns
I thought it would make sense to use an actual example of a "good" store bought hummus to illustrate what we should be concerned with.
The question was, "Hummus, anything wrong with these ingredients?".
Good News: There is no apparent MSG. Bad News: No apparent MSG doesn’t mean there isn’t any in the tahini. Also, Organic Sunflower Oil doesn’t mean anything. The way the Labeling Law works is that if you say that something is “organic” it only has to be 50% organic. The other 50% is not given. Sunflower Oil (unless it is listed as “cold expeller pressed” is normally Heat Extracted which creates lots of Free Radicals…Which are really bad mojo.
I would prefer that you buy some dry organic chickpeas and hydrate them overnight then cook and cool. Buy some 100% USDA Organic Tahini and some First Expeller Pressed Olive Oil blend it all together and then add the fresh flavors you want. This will last for 3-4 days so don’t make a ton. This will give you a healthy and more delicious snack than anything you could buy in the store."
Saying all of this it is one of the best store bought Hummus' I have seen.
